The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is investigating the video of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driver smashing a closed van’s side mirror along Old Sta. Mesa in Manila that has gone viral on social media.
According to Oscar Oida’s “24 Oras” report, a motorist’s dashcam caught the alleged road rage along V. Mapa on Sunday afternoon.
In the video, the man driving the SUV was seen approaching the truck, who then started smashing the truck’s side mirror.
The SUV then sped off after, but was immediately followed by the truck — until they stopped at a traffic light. That is when the video ended.
According to the Manila Police District Headquarters, no such incident has been reported. So the source of the conflict between the two drivers is still unclear.
The MPD said the SUV driver who hit the closed van may face a charge of malicious mischief, which could have been avoided.
“Huminga tayo ng malalim at magbilang tayo ng hanggang 10 magbabago na ang ating pananaw ang sabi nga natin kapaf may ganitong pangyayari lawakan natin ang pagiisip natin,” said MPD public information officer, Police Major Philipp Ines.
(Let’s take a deep breath and count to 10. Our perspective will change. When something like this happens, let’s expand our thinking.)
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is also investigating the identity of the two drivers so that they can be issued a show cause order and explain why their license should not be revoked despite what happened. — Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA Integrated News
