“Tanang job order, basta dili lang magpakita na kamo proven na kawatan, I have directed [that] all will be rehired,” Rama said.
The City had 2,263 job order workers as of Feb. 3, 2023.
He added that the City Hall will hire more employees as long as their funds allow it.
Days after he was elected mayor, Rama issued a memorandum on May 16, 2022 that City Hall employees would be evaluated based on the following: “kawatan (thief), tapulan (lazy), hugawan (messy), intregero (intriguer), palaaway (quarrelsome), walay nahibaw-an (ignorant), dili mo bayad og utang (does not pay debts), and mobuko-buko (backstabber).”
The mayor made another threat last July 4 that he would fire 3,000 employees if they did not perform their duties.
Last October, Rama also ordered the firing of hundreds of JO workers to rightsize employee numbers at City Hall and spare funds that can be used for the programs and projects of the City.
In his speech on Charter Day Friday, Rama also reminded everyone of what he said in last year’s Charter Day celebration, that “freedom with shared responsibility” is still significant.
Rama invited Vice Mayor Raymond Garcia to the stage to express his appreciation for Garcia’s support in the endeavors of the city. “Politics will pass, friendships will last, family ties forever,” Rama said.
Aside from Rama, Garcia, their allies and City Hall employees, members of the Rama clan were present at Friday’s event to honor the late senator Vicente Rama, the father of Cebu City’s charter.
